Fall riding is only as fun as your technical clothing....

October 16, 2013
You can be toasty warm with minimal bulk and good ventilation.  Riding in fall in BC or in southern Canada for that matter means light layer underneath and thermal wind deflect on top.  Simple as that.  For feet you can use neoprene booties but the deluxe option is DEFROSTER Specialized winter riding shoes ( which I start using in September to November and April - May)  Two pairs of riding gloves are required : either a heavy pair and a medium or a medium and a heavy.  If you are lucky and you can leave the house with one pair and it works for the ups and the downs, for mid morning temps to mid afternoon temps..you indeed are lucky.
My typical outfit for riding this time of year:  SPECIALIZED APPAREL
0C- 10C     Defroster boots, Specialized signature wool sock, Therminal Deflect tights!! with additional inner chamois short, Long sleeve jersey, Therminal Deflect jacket, Skull beanie under helmet, start with Radiant glove and change to Deflect glove once climbing or heated up!
10C -15C    Specialized wool socks in shoes, Specialized RBX shorts with Therminal knee or leg warmers, Shortsleeve Team jersey and Aqua Veto jacket as slightly warmer than deflect windbreaker.  Start ride with BG Deflect glove and change to BG gel long finger as temp rises.

2013 Specialized Rumor 29'er

May 27, 2013
I've had 6 rides on this bike and can only say "wow".   There is nothing it can not do like my Specialized Safire.
The rumors I heard about 29'ers just aren't true with this RUMOR!

No problem downhill tight switchbaks.  No problem manoeuvring at all.   I still have to dial in high speed cornering, mainly because I don't know the bike but slow speed steep tight corners don't faze me.  No problem with feeling too high off the ground - Specialized centered the frame nicely between the wheels ; i...

Outdoor Gear- quality technical stuff makes a big difference!

February 12, 2013
Quality supportive shoes help make your cycling experience better.  Ask your sports store about the right shoe for your sport - are you flat pedal or cleat.  If cleated get the stiffest sole you can afford if you are not walking any particular distance in the shoe..just pedalin!
Same with clothing.  The world of "technical clothing" is here to stay.  Cotton and nylon just doesn't cut it.  You'll never enjoy outdoors with this IF there is any chance of precipitation.  Sure if you are lucky that...

Biking Fitness

May 7, 2012
May,2012
Your legs need to learn a muscle memory of pedalling circles.  Practice at least twice a week to pedal 30 minutes. Try to do it outdoors, in nature, in real air, and notice your surroundings.  Be with your legs spinning, your heart pumping, your breath paced and in your control, and your outdoor world.  Make sure your saddle is not too high or too low; about a 20 degree angle at your knee when foot at lowest position.  Allow yourself to feel the joy of managing your thigh muscle glow ...

Specialized Gear Review

March 5, 2012

May 16/12
COMMAND SEATPOST
This functions just as it should.  If you install it correctly and place the lever in a good position for YOUR hand, it works like a dream.

Lever-  Best thing about lever is that it is a hinge attachment so you can move it around on your bars easily with no need to slide anything off your handlebars!! Bonus. However my lever was placed too far inside of brake and gear levers thus required me to take my hand off grips to press it down. This is not a functional position ...

Who Is Cindy Devine?

Cindy Devine
Rossland,Bc

Cindy Devine is not her accomplishments.Cindy Devine is an ordinary Canadian, who happened to accomplish some extra- ordinary things in cycling. Before she became a World Downhill Mountain Bike Champion and Hall of Fame'er, she was a regular BC homegrown kid who grew up riding a sparkly Mustang banana seat bike in elementary school. This progressed to a 10 speed CHIMO which she thought nothing of riding from Mission to English Bay as a young teenager just to get away from Hicksville Ruskin,BC, and then a twenty year old who cycled across Canada to get an identity, a connection to her community, her country. She is an ordinary Canadian kid who found cycling an antidepressant, an escape from a dysfunctional family, and a way to feel in control of something. As many other cyclists will tell you.. everything gets better after the first 2 km on your bike! All your troubles fall behind you. And now Cindy is a middle aged woman still passionate about cycling and particularly interested in getting newcomers on bicycles. It doesn't matter whether road or trail- JUST PEDAL.
